Puerto Rico Primary Results: Mitt Romney Wins Easily

Mitt Romney scored a win in Puerto Rico’s Republican primary this weekend, pocketing all of the territory’s 20 GOP delegates (because he finished with more than 50 percent of the vote) in the bruising race for the GOP presidential nomination.

With about 83 percent of total ballots accounted for early Monday in Puerto Rico, the Republican presidential candidate had garnered more than 98,000 votes.

That’s 83 percent of the total, with Rick Santorum a distant second at 8 percent.

Mitt Romney Picture

The other two candidates, Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul, each won approximately 2 percent of the votes cast, according to CNN’s Puerto Rico results.

Even as the vote was being counted in Puerto Rico, Romney, Santorum and the others were already back on the mainland vying for delegates.

Illinois holds its primary on Tuesday and Louisiana on Saturday.

CNN’s latest delegate estimates show Romney with 518 delegates to Santorum’s 239. Gingrich has 139 delegates, and libertarian champion Paul has 69.

To secure the nomination, 1,144 delegates are needed. Romney has the inside track, but his opponents have shown zero willingness to quit the fight.

By blocking Romney from reaching that benchmark – even if they fall short themselves – they could vie for the nomination at the GOP national convention.

Santorum, the former Pennsylvania senator and Romney’s chief rival of late, was in Louisiana late Sunday, where he is expected to win the primary.

Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, was in Illinois where polls indicate he holds a small lead over Santorum, with Gingrich and Paul well behind.

Apple TV (2012) gets torn down, confirmed to have 512MB of RAM, 8GB of storage

We already knew about most of the latest Apple TV‘s technical upgrades, but a few key specs have eluded us since its announcement. That’s now changed, however, thanks to user aicjofs over at XBMC’s forum, who ripped a fresh unit apart to find out exactly what’s inside of its shell. Apart from its documented single-core A5 SoC, it’s now confirmed that the 1080p-capable streamer features 512MB of Hynix-branded RAM (up from 256) along with an unchanged 8GB of storage, courtesy of Toshiba. Interestingly, there’s no word on whether it’s still packing Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR like the 2010 variant (Apple’s website only lists 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi), but MacRumors notes that aicjofs has discovered what’s possibly an additional WiFi antenna. A few parts are still under investigation, but you can check out the links below for more info.

Let it Slide is an engaging, difficult puzzle game

letitslide

I have a thing for physics games, and I’ve been known to post the occasional platformer or action game here and there. But Let it Slide is one of the brainiest games I’ve posted to date.

The idea is very simple, and far from original: You get a board with pieces arranged in a particular pattern; you have to slide those around until you get the special piece into its target location.

It’s not even about finding out where the target location is – you can just hover over “dim tiles” and instantly see where you’re supposed to bring the special piece. But getting it there is a whole different story.

There are five tutorial levels, which I strongly recommend you do. Then there are twenty “beginner” levels, but that’s really a misnomer. If those are the beginner levels, I don’t want to know what the intermediate and advanced levels look like!

Every time you finish a level you get a score based on how many clicks it took you – each level has a “par” (the minimum number of clicks it could be completed in), and your performance is compared to that gold standard. Because it’s such a brainy game, getting it right is quite satisfying. I was downright proud of myself when I managed to finish a few levels. All in all, quite recommended, especially if you’ve got a few minutes of quiet. It might actually help you focus better later on.

Windows 8 wallpaper available to download, Jupiter and Twin UI spotted

windows 8 wallpaper

With Windows 8 milestone 3 now up for grabs for select Microsoft Connect partners, it’s inevitable that leaked bits and pieces will start popping up around the Web. In fact, the first “official” wallpaper image from the still-brewing OS is already making the rounds.

As you can see, it’s got a similar feel to the good ol’ Windows 7 default background, but features a more subdued smattering of cerulean hues. Those of you who want to use the Windows 8 wallpaper on your current desktop can download it from our file dump.

A few other details have been revealed, too. According to ZDNet’s source, the Windows 8 Jupiter libraries and Twin UI are starting to take shape — though all that’s been located thus far are “[various files] scattered throughout the OS” and the aptly-named twinui.dll.

Vanessa Hudgens & Austin Butler’s Boqueria Lunch Date

Sporting a newly shortened hairdo, Vanessa Hudgens was spotted enjoying another Big Apple afternoon with boyfriend Austin Butler on Sunday (March 18).

The cute, young couple lovingly walked arm-in-arm as they first grabbed up a bite to eat for lunch at the Boqueria Restaurant in SoHo,

Once filled up on the tasty grub, Vanessa and Austin proceeded to stop off at a few clothing shops, though the twosome didn’t end up making any purchases.

As previously reported by GossipCenter, Miss Hudgens and her man were busy roaming the NYC streets on Saturday, as well, with Vanessa posting a well-wishing St. Patrick’s Day message on her Facebook page, which read, “Heyy Heyy!! Happy St Patrick’s Day party people!!” She later added, “Sending out some irish love with a St Paddy’s day pic”.

Microsoft releases sexy Bing app for iPad

It’s still a bit odd seeing Microsoft deliver apps for Apple’s mobile platform. And it’s even stranger still to see one as sexy as the new Bing app for iPad, which brings a slick, immersive search experience to Apple’s tablet.

Just as a regular search on bing.com will, the Bing app for iPad tailors the results it displays based on what you’re searching for. There are loads of custom views, covering everything from movies and maps to weather and shopping. The app also offers a heads-up display of currently trending searches, complete with related images, which is an iPad-exclusive feature.

Navigation is a breeze thanks to multitouch controls, allowing users to flick or swipe through results. And while the development team refers to the app as “touch and decide,” Bing Voice Search is also built in — making it easy to start a query without using the iPad’s on-screen keyboard.

The Bing app for iPad is available for download now from the App Store.

Report: Samuel Hubinette retires from Formula DRIFT

Filed under:

SHR Challenger

Samuel Hübinette, two-time Formula D champion, will not return for the 2012 Formula Drift pro championship season. “Two of our main sponsors changed their marketing direction, so we decided that the best thing to do with the Dodge Challenger SHR drift car is to focus on doing demos,” said Hübinette, driver and team owner of Team Samuel Hübinette Racing. But don’t think team SHR has lost its competitiveness. While drifting has been put on the back burner, Hübinette (the “Crazy Swede”) has refocused his team on rallycross and off-road truck competitions.

Born in Sweden, Hübinette earned an early reputation for pushing motorcycles, cars and snowmobiles to the limit. He worked for Volvo Cars as a test driver in product development and was on the company’s Touring Car racing team from 1997 through 2000. Since moving to the United States 2004, he has secured a bronze medal in the X Games, won two Formula Drift championships, and driven in the Baja 1000. He is also a working stunt driver in Hollywood productions.

Not only has Hübinette been one of the top names in drifting, but he maintains the record for most Formula D victories. “We will miss having a competitor like Samuel this season,” said Jim Liaw, president and co-founder of Formula Drift.

TripAdvisor app for Windows Phone 7 now available

tripadvisor windows phone 7TripAdvisor, the popular travel planning tool, has just launched an app for Windows Phone 7. Just like the mobile website, the app allows you to search for anything travel-related — from hotels and flights to restaurants and points-of-interest to visit once you reach your destination.

Geolocation is supported, which allows TripAdvisor to quickly locate places nearby. But while that’s a neat feature, it’s also a bit of a downer — because, really, it’s about the only feature TripAdvisor for WP7 brings to the table that its mobile Web app doesn’t already offer (its browser-based geolocation doesn’t work with WP7 at the moment).

While it’s nice to see Windows Phone 7 users getting some big-name apps, it’d be even nicer if we saw some packing a bit more swagger.

Still, TripAdvisor for WP7 might just be worth installing on your device if you’re frequently on the go — at least until a better browser arrives with the Mango update.

Shot Shot Pirate is a fun, simple physics game

shotshotpirate

Shot Shot Pirate is very satisfying, because each level is short and to the point. You know what you have to do and you just do it.

As you may have gathered from the name, you’re cast in the role of a pirate. Your goal is to shoot at a diamond and make it fall off a tower of bricks. The height of the tower changes as you progress through the levels. It’s not enough to just make the diamond fall off the tower of bricks – it has to fall below a certain line (drawn on the screen) for the level to be completed.

There are also different kinds of bricks, with some heavier than others, and different kinds of ammo. You only get a certain amount of ammo for each level, and when it’s gone, you lose. But don’t worry! If you don’t make it on the first try, it’s very easy to restart the level and just give it another shot (or three).

All in all it’s a cute game. I’ve seen similar games with better graphics and music, but the game delivers on its main promise – a few minutes of pure time wasting!
